What are axle weighbridges?
Axle weighbridges are specialised weighing systems designed to measure the load on each axle of a vehicle – either individually or while in motion. Phoenix’s static models support up to 25 tonnes per axle and display individual axle weights along with gross, net, and tare values.
How do axle weighbridges work?
These systems utilise high-accuracy load cells built into durable steel or aluminium platforms. For static weighing, the vehicle stops on each pad. For dynamic or “in-motion” weighing, the vehicle drives slowly across the platform (typically at 1–5 mph), while software calculates axle loads, total vehicle weight, axle spacing, and speed. On-screen alerts notify drivers of overloading or excessive speed to ensure reliable readings.
Key benefits of axle weighbridges
- Compliance and safety: Helps prevent overloaded vehicles, ensuring adherence to road safety regulations.
- Efficiency: In-motion weighing reduces queuing and minimises downtime for drivers.
- Cost-effective: More affordable and simpler to install than full-length weighbridges – especially semi-portable models, which require minimal civil works.
- Data-driven: Built-in indicators and software enable USB or Excel data export, with ANPR camera integration available for automatic vehicle identification.
Applications of axle weighbridges
Ideal for logistics centres, fleet operators, farms, quarries, and roadside enforcement. They support accurate payload management, help reduce road damage, maintain insurance compliance, and avoid costly fines or delays.
